Gratitude is a practice that helps us stay connected to life. Our tendency is to notice the negative and overlook the positive. Living at either end of a scale keeps us from seeing the whole picture. It can also keep us disconnected from each other and even from ourselves. Sometimes I’ve heard myself or others complain or say that life isn’t fair and while I can understand this thought and reaction I’m also aware that on a deeper level there is some feeling…either of pain, sadness, hurt, etc. So it’s not that life sets out to punish us, it is the way that we react to what is happening, either through avoidance, aversion of what is painful or clinging to what brings us pleasure and joy. It’s when we are open and allow ourselves to remain open to all of life’s experience that we come into balance. The practice of gratitude can be one of seeing the positive in all of our experiences.
Practice gratitude today… breathe, pause and just be present to life.
May you be well…
